The Virginia Department of Social Services, Office of Family Violence is sponsoring a statewide awareness campaign entitled "Domestic Violence: It's closer than you think". This publicity is part of a nationwide effort entitled "The Closer Campaign" which emphasizes that domestic violence is "closer" than we think.
The campaign uses images of a student, a mother, a sister, a friend, a grandparent, and a coach, as possible abuse victims. There are 6 different visuals representing diversity among potential victims. Roadside billboards, posters, brochures, and palm cards are being used to spread the message that domestic violence can happen to anyone.
